Like many people in Maine, we were unaccustomed to defending ourselves from allegations of wrongdoing by others. Faced with the threat of civil action, we relied on Mr. Smith for advice. Our meeting with him provided comfort and direction. Whenever we had questions, he was rapidly responsive. Most importantly, his guidance led to an acceptable conclusion that avoided court or overly extended uncertainty. We highly recommend him for his assistance in civil disputes.

Client of Steve Smith

I am incredibly pleased I hired Steve Smith and Jack Baldacci to help with an unscrupulous builder. They went above and beyond to make sure A) the contractor finished the job they were paid to do and B) to prevent them from doing the same thing to anyone in the future. I highly recommend them.

Scott

I’ve hired Steve for two cases and I am very pleased with my decision. He fights for his clients and strives for the best outcome. His entire staff is pleasant and wonderful to work with.

Amber

I hired Steve for a parental rights case involving my 2 children. He was aggressive but supportive and did not file unnecessary motions that wasted my retainer. I was terrified of court but with his experience, I felt at ease. The process was explained and his staff was great as well. I would hire him again if needed and received a great outcome with an order that works for me and my children.

Handled my Parental Rights Case with Ease

I wish I had retained him sooner, his help has been immeasurable.

Supporting Veterans Through Military Law: Our Mission and Expertise

At Steve Smith Trial Lawyers, supporting our nation’s veterans is not just a practice area—it’s a core part of our identity. As a veteran-owned business, we understand the unique challenges and sacrifices faced by service members and their families. Our military law team, led by seasoned professionals like Steve Smith, works tirelessly to advocate for veterans’ rights and ensure they receive the support and representation they deserve.

On Friday, November 16th, our CFO Andrew Wood will present at the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) of New England. This session is a part of VBOC’s mission to empower veteran entrepreneurs, offering thoughtful insights for small businesses, including choosing the right business structure, understanding government contracts, and protecting intellectual property.

Veterans at the Core of Our Mission

Steve Smith, a decorated veteran, leads our military law practice with the passion and dedication that stems from personal experience. He believes in giving back to the veteran community, helping service members navigate complex legal landscapes, whether it involves military benefits, family law issues, or business ventures. Steve’s leadership ensures that veterans receive compassionate, expert guidance tailored to their unique situations.

Our team also benefits from the expertise of Walter H. Foster IV, a retired Army Colonel. Walter’s distinguished career includes prosecuting high-profile terrorists like Majid Kahn, an al Qaeda operative, for the Pentagon. He has served as the strategic program leader and Deputy General Counsel for the Army Reserve Legal Command, where he managed and mentored over 1,600 attorneys and paralegals. Beyond military law, Walter brings a wealth of knowledge in aviation law and patent law, with a focus on protecting manufacturing intellectual property.

Empowering Veteran Entrepreneurs

Andrew Wood’s involvement with VBOC underscores our commitment to veterans beyond the courtroom. Through this collaboration, Andrew provides critical advice on legal and financial frameworks to help veterans succeed in their entrepreneurial journeys. His upcoming presentation will cover essential topics such as:

  • Selecting the appropriate business structure for your needs.
  • Understanding key tax and liability implications.
  • Navigating government contracting processes.

This session is invaluable for veteran entrepreneurs seeking to build solid legal foundations for their businesses.
